If you're looking for a great place to watch the sunrise in Kauai, then you must head to Kauai's windward side of the island. You can watch from one of the many windward beaches in Kapa'a or Wailua - bring a towel or chair and watch the sunrise from Wailua Beach Park, Kapa'a Beach Park, Lydgate State Park, or Nukoli'i Beach Park. But First, A Side Story on the Coconut Coast
Kauai's east side is also known as the Coconut Coast. It is aptly named, because it seems like there are thousands of large palm trees all over the town of Wailua.
Originally planted over a century ago to be a part of a coconut plantation, the palm tree groves still remain and can be found in clusters along the coastal Kuhio Highway, the Wailua River and farther inland.
And they provide the perfect silhouette for a beautiful sunrise.

So if you're looking for an unforgettable spot to watch the sunrise, my personal favorite is to watch the sunrise from behind one of the coconut tree clusters.
My go-to spot is to head to Wailua Golf Course (3-5350 Kuhio Hwy, Lihue, HI 96766), where there is a small grove of coconut trees along the golf course and highway.
How to Get There: Drive on the Kuhio Hwy heading towards Lihue to the Wailua Golf Course. Drive past the entrance and as you near the end of the golf course, right in front of the Wailua Golf Course on your right-hand side is a white cement pull-off area. You can either pull over here and watch from your car, or take the next left on a public access road and park your car here to watch the sunrise.
